I LOVE the Friday Five

TGIF! Even though tonight I have to work an event that doesn't end until midnight... I am thankful that it is finally Friday. Here are your Friday five:

1. Have you ever gone through a rough time or simply just needed some words of encouragement? I know we all have or eventually will. I LOVE the song "Stronger" by Mandisa.

2. I am blessed to have a beautiful drive along the battery to work everyday. This morning the sun's rays were shinning through the clouds onto the water. It was beautiful. Thank you Jesus for creating such a beautiful landscape! I tried to take a picture but my phone's quality didn't show it very well so here is one from Google images:

3. I LOVE the Peanut Butter Banana Smoothie recipe from http://www.100daysofrealfood.com/. I modified the original recipe a little bit and have listed the one I used below. It is so yummy and everyone who I have shared it with has LOVED it. I hope you LOVE it too!

Ingredients:
1 ripe banana
2 heaping tablespoons of peanut butter (I use Smart Balance creamy peanut butter)
1 Tablespoon of honey (I use organic honey)
1 cup of milk (I used 2% but I am sure any will do)
Directions:
Put all the ingredients into a blender. Fill the blender with ice cubes. Mix until blended evenly. Enjoy!

3. I LOVE this Contigo AUTOSEAL Kangaroo Water Bottle with Storage Compartment - 24 oz on Amazon. This is perfect to take to the gym especially when you need to make a grocery store run after. If only it had a place for your cell phone too...maybe the next one will :)

5. I LOVE what God teaches us about LOVE in action. Romans 12:9-10: "Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good. Be devoted to one another in love. Honor one another above yourselves."
Sweet.

What have you fallen in LOVE with today? Have a great weekend!!

I LOVE Corey Smith

Corey Smith is a singer/songwriter with a unique country "twang". Read more about him here.
I recently figured out that there are many people who don't know of Corey Smith. I immediately thought that needed to change so I thought I would write a blog post on him. Michael and I danced our first dance as a married couple to his song, "First Dance". The lyrics are beautiful so I posted them for you all to enjoy. Obviously, Corey Smith is one of my favorite artists. He is performing in Boone on Saturday, August 20th and I can't wait! I LOVE Boone and I LOVE Corey Smith! Check out more of his music here.

bio

"First Dance" by Corey Smith
The leaves are falling down
The air is cool and clear
It's a seasonal change
And the night we've waited for is here
And we've exchanged the rings
And we've taken the vows
The ceremony's over baby
And the honeymoon is starting now

This is the first dance
But it won't be the last
Timeless moments like this
They won't ever be a thing of the past
We'll spark a candle tonight
An eternal flame of romance
When the honeymoon is over baby
I'll still move you like the first dance

I've been scared as hell
Cause I've heard how the story goes
You get married and you settle down
And the passion withers like a rose
But I refuse to lose
This thing we have together
And I'll keep the fire burning baby
Burning both ends of forever

This is the first dance
But it won't be the last
Timeless moments like this
They won't ever be a thing of the past
We'll spark a candle tonight
An eternal flame of romance
When the honeymoon is over baby
I'll still move you like the first dance

I see heaven in your eyes
And feel God movin' in this room
Ain't love the greatest gift of all
Ain't it amazing what desire can do

This is the first dance
But it won't be the last
Timeless moments like this
They won't ever be a thing of the past
We'll spark a candle tonight
An eternal flame of romance
When the honeymoon is over baby
I'll still move you like the first dance

Yeah I'll always turn you on
And move you like the first dance

I LOVE taking the stairs

Call me crazy but I LOVE taking the stairs. One of my pet peeves is when someone who is fully capable of walking up stairs takes the elevator up one floor. I understand when the elderly, injured, or someone whose hands are full take the elevator but there is no excuse for someone who is just lazy. My office is only 2 stories high and my desk sits right beside the elevator. You would be shocked at how many times I hear the phrase, "There are too many stairs so I am just going to take the elevator."

Granted, these are the stairs at work (at Christmas, of course) but it takes a shorter amount of time to walk up the stairs then it does to wait for and ride the elevator:

Women's Health Magazine reported some benefits to taking the stairs over the elevator:
In a study published in the European Heart Journal, 69 hospital employees used the stairs exclusively for 12 weeks. Here are the ways they benefited, on average:

Lung capacity: up 8.6 percent
Body fat: down 1.7 percent
Waist circumference: down 1.8 percent
Diastolic blood pressure: down 2.3 percent
LDL (bad) cholesterol: down 3.9 percent

Duke University reported these benefits:
Enjoy the benefits of taking the stairs everyday:
  • No special equipment is needed
  • Stair climbing can be accumulated across the course of the day, making a significant contribution to the recommended 30 minutes of daily physical activity
  • There is a significantly lower risk of mortality when climbing more than 55 flights per week
  • Stair climbing requires about 8 - 11kcal of energy per minute, which is high compared to other moderate level physical activities.
  • Active stair climbers are more fit and have a higher aerobic capacity
  • Even two flights of stairs climbed per day can lead to 6 lbs of weight loss over one year
  • There is a strong association between stair climbing and bone density in post-menopausal women
  • Climbing stairs can improve the amount of "good cholesterol" in the blood
  • Stair climbing increases leg power and may be an important priority in reducing the risk of injury from falls in the elderly
  • Stair climbing can help you achieve and maintain a healthy body weight
  • Stair climbing can help you build and maintain healthy bones, muscles and joints.
Who doesn't LOVE improving their health while getting to where they are going? What have you fallen in LOVE with today?

I LOVE Picture it on Canvas

Are any of you on Groupon? If not, you should be. You'll get an email every day that includes a deal in your area. Some of the deals you may not care about and some are really worth buying. Today's deal is one photo print that is reproduced on a 16"x20"x1.5" canvas. It is only $39 and includes shipping, handling, and tax. The regular price of this size canvas would be $124.95 plus shipping, handling, and tax. That gives you a 69% discount and you will save $86. Also, you have 6 months to use the deal so you aren't required to use it right away. I LOVE canvas prints so I was excited to see this was today's deal. Lucky for all of you this is not only a SC deal so you can buy it too! It is an online deal from Picture it on Canvas, a California based company. You have until the end of today to save on this great deal. I hope you LOVE it!

I LOVE Real Food

I want to start out by saying, no, I am not a "foodie". In fact, I am far from it. I am a girl who LOVES to eat (and will eat most anything). As we all know, food is delicious and something everybody needs. I've always tried to watch what I eat but will allow myself to splurge every once in a while. No one should go through life without eating dessert!

With that being said...

This past weekend I was talking to my sister-in-law about eating "real food" and I became very intrigued. Yes, I have heard how bad most food is before but never caught on to the "organic/real food" idea. I even watched the movie Food, Inc and thought, "That is gross but I am still going to eat the same way I always have." For some reason, my entire mindset changed this past weekend.  My sister-in-law told me to look at the blog, http://www.100daysofrealfood.com/, to learn about the health benefits of eating real food. The blog teaches you to read the ingredients before you buy. It also teaches you that you don't have to cut out bread, meat, sweets, etc out of your diet you just need to use natural ingredients instead of processed ingredients.  Meals will take more time and preparation but your health will thank you for it in the long run. There are recipes on the blog that look delicious and easy to create. I went to the grocery store and was shocked to find out that the "healthy" food I was buying before is packed full with chemicals and preservatives.

I decided to try out the 100 days of real food. Honestly, I have been surprisingly impressed by how tasty real food is. I always thought raw food would taste bland but was surprised how natural sweeteners actually add flavor and taste really good. It is also very filling because you eat until you are full. You aren't worried about how much you eat or how many calories you are allowed. You eat until your body tells you it is full. Your body then digests the food naturally and you have more energy and less weighing you down. I am going to try to make this a lifestyle change not just something I do for 100 days. I'm not going to lie, some processed food will eventually find its way back into my diet but it won't be something I let happen all the time. I'll always have a Cold Stone Ice Cream cake on my birthday - that will never change!

Read about real food on the blog, http://www.100daysofrealfood.com/ and see if it sparks any interest. Even if it is a gradual change it will be a change for the better.

I also found this blog, http://thestonesoup.com/blog/, which I am very excited to read and try out some of her recipes. If you subscribe to her blog by email she rewards you with her free eCookbooks. Everything looks so yummy!

Again, I am not a foodie or someone who is obsessed with what I can or can not eat. I am someone who enjoys eating good food and am excited to learn how to make my favorite foods healthier. Please feel free to share any real food recipes with me that you know are delicious!

I LOVE the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer

One of my best friends growing up, Maggy, works for the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer and is walking in the walk on May 5th & 6th, 2012 in Washington, DC. Over the course of two days she will walk 39.3 miles (26.2 miles on Saturday and 13.1 on Sunday).  She is extremely passionate not only about her job but about the lives of the people who are fighting this deadly disease. Each walker is required to raise $1,800 and she needs your help. The Avon Walk for Breast Cancer explains:
The money we raise will provide women and men the breast cancer screening, support and treatment they need regardless of their ability to pay. It will also help power leading-edge research teams across the country, fueling their quest for a cure — all because of you! Are you IN IT TO END IT?
If you or anyone you know has been diagnosed with breast cancer then you know how horrible this disease is. There isn't a cure for cancer -yet- and our donations to the walk will go towards the treatment of an individual or to help fund the research to find a cure. Please help Maggy reach her goal of $1,800 or more. No amount is too little. To find out more about Maggy and to follow her as she trains for this walk, read her blog: http://maggywithay.wordpress.com/ She is honest about the ups & downs of her training and she is hilarious! You will fall in LOVE with her and her blog.

Click the link to find out more about the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer

Maggy is one of the funniest, most loyal friends you could ever ask for. She will stick by your side no matter what. She is caring and dedicated to those around her. Since we aren't walking the walk ourselves let's participate by donating to Maggy. I know she will greatly appreciate it. I had to pull out this old picture of us. Maggy is in the orange and I am in the pink. Shout out to Ashley, Sarah and Lydia who are also pictured.

I LOVE the Friday Five

Happy Friday everyone! Here are your Friday Five:

1. I LOVE Moonshadow Kennel - For those of you who don't know, I have the best dog in the world who deserves the best treatment. Tucker is an 80lb chocolate lab who will be 2 years old in September. Michael and I bought him a few weeks after we got engaged and he quickly become my child. We can't always take him with us when we travel so we board him. Like I said, Tucker deserves the best treatment and Moonshadow Kennel provides that for him. The owners are extremely nice and take amazing care of all the animals they board. Not only are they the best but they are also the most inexpensive. If you live in Charleston or the surrounding areas and are looking for a place to board your pet, check out Moonshadow Kennel. You will LOVE it.

Moonshadow Kennel

The services they provide are:

  • Indoor/outdoor accommodations
  • Climate controlled
  • Personalized care and attention

  • Bed-time potty, biscuits and kisses
  • All staff certified pet care technicians through the Pet Care Services Association (formerly ABKA)
  • Calming music 24 hours a day
  • Live security and fire monitoring

2. I LOVE USA Women's Soccer Team
I have to admit that I haven't watched all season until this past weekend when USA won against Brazil. What an amazing comeback that was. I played soccer from elementary school through high school so I know a little bit about the game. I haven't played since high school, although, while I was watching the game I started spitting out soccer terms like it was nobodys business. I literally laughed out loud listening to myself, "dribble, now kick cross field, header and GOAL!" or "Man-on, out of bounds, offsides, goal kick, corner kick" or "Move up, get out of the box"' and the occasional "Let's go ladies, what are you doing?". Hopefully, I'll be able to watch the World Cup Finals on Sunday - Go USA!

3. I LOVE these TopShop sandals. They are a fabulous statement shoe that will add color to any outfit!
Topshop - Summer Accessories

4.  I LOVE Shutterfly
Shutterfly is a great website to store your pictures. You can also create really great projects with your pictures, such as, photo books, greeting cards, canvases, etc. I use this program all the time. I highly recommend trying out shutterfly. You will LOVE it.

5. I LOVE my Keurig Coffee Maker
When my parents recently moved back to the States they were given a new Keurig Coffee maker so Michael and I got the one they were currently using. The Keurig allows you to brew one cup of coffee at a time. It is great when you have multiple people drinking coffee because each person can choose their favorite flavor. It also warms up within one minute and brews a hot cup of coffee or tea in several seconds. It is great!

Have a wonderful weekend! What have you fallen in LOVE with today?

I LOVE Chandeliers

Chandeliers add so much character to a room. I've noticed them a lot lately and they always seem to bring the entire room together. I LOVE the typical chandelier that is placed in the entryway or above the dining room table. They are beautiful.

I LOVE when you see a chandelier in an unexpected place:

Chandelier

I also LOVE the not-so-typical chandelier:

Chandelier.     Chandelier

When Michael and I have our first baby girl her room will have a chandelier. Hopefully, when that time comes this one will still be around:
