I LOVE award show fashion

Last night was the Screen Actors Guild awards and the reason I watch most award shows is to see the gorgeous (sometimes not so gorgeous) fashion. Sadly, I wasn't very impressed with the gowns. Usually, there are a few gowns that I immediately think, "Wow, that is beautiful" but not this time. There were a few that I knew I liked but was anticipating something better. Anyway, here is my favorite look of the night:

Michelle Williams in Valentino - peoplestylewatch.com

I LOVE the lace sleeves and the tied waist. I LOVE the asymmetrical hem. Red is a stunning color on her and I think she wore this gown with pure elegance.

I usually leave the guys out because they can mix up the color/style of their tux but, in my opinion, a tux is a tux. Although, when John Krasinski showed up I actually noticed and really LOVED his tux. If you can't tell by the picture his tux is midnight blue, not black. Not to mention, his wife Emily Blunt looked beautiful in my second favorite gown. Here is my pick for best looking couple:

I LOVE the Friday Five

Happy Friday friends! Today started off raining and gross but is clearing up to be a beautiful day. I can't wait until 5pm!

Here are your Friday Five:

1. I LOVE linen. I know that January is way to early to start thinking about linen, although, this warm weather is messing with my brain. I am ready for hot weather and spending every weekend at the beach. I am ready for flip flops, bathing suits, and linen clothing. There's nothing better than a Charleston lifestyle! I came across this linen dress and fell in LOVE with it:
LC Lauren Conrad Linen Strapless Dress

2.  I LOVE 50/50. Have you seen the movie, 50/50? Michael and I watched it the other night and both really enjoyed it. It is inspired by a true story and is sure to make you laugh. Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Seth Rogen play best friends whose entire world changes once one is diagnosed with cancer. I would consider it a comedy with a little bit of drama and a touch of romance. I would imagine it is rated R because of the language - that is the only downfall. Overall, it is a movie both guys and girls will enjoy. What did you think of the movie?

3. I LOVE buckeyes. You know what I am talking about...the peanut butter balls covered in chocolate. I made my mom's recipe this week and they are so yummy. I would give you my mom's recipe but I don't know it off the top of my head, sorry! Below is a recipe from All Recipes. Enjoy!
Buckeyes I Recipe

4. I LOVE a music blast from the past. This morning Michael and I listened to an old favorite, Usher's "Let it Burn". Isn't it funny how an older song can bring back the same LOVE we had for it when it was popular? If you LOVED this song back in the day - you will LOVE it even more now, promise!

5. I LOVE this food calendar. I never know what fruit or vegetable is in season and this calendar is the perfect guide. I hope it helps you as much as it helps me!

I LOVE Michael's BBQ Pulled Pork

I am blessed with a husband who enjoys cooking and is very good at it. He can throw ingredients together that create a delicious dish. Michael makes the absolute, no doubt about it, hands down best pork. I LOVE it. I have never, ever, tasted pork as good as his. I'm not just saying that because he is my husband...promise! I can't tell you how he makes it because I have no idea. I know he slow cooks it in the crock pot and throws in a number of different herbs and spices. The final product will delight any taste bud. It is simply delicious.

Last night, we made BBQ Pulled Pork Sliders. We topped them off with a touch of BBQ sauce and homemade coleslaw. For the coleslaw, I searched many different recipes and mixed a few together to fit what I had in my pantry and what Michael and I liked. If you like vinegar based coleslaw - try this recipe. You won't be disappointed!

Apple Cider Vinegar Coleslaw
1 package of Trader Joe's Broccoli Slaw
1 cup of Apple Cider Vinegar
1 cup Sugar in the Raw
1 teaspoon dry mustard
1 teaspoon salt
2/3 cup of Olive Oil
1 tomato, cut into chunks

Pour the Trader Joe's Broccoli Slaw into a large mixing bowl. In a saucepan, mix the remaining ingredients, except tomato, over medium-high heat. Bring to a boil then let simmer while stirring until the sugar is dissolved. Pour the cider mixture over the Broccoli Slaw and mix together until the slaw is completely soaked in vinegar. Mix in the chunks of tomato. Cover and put in the refrigerator about an hour (or more) before serving. Enjoy!

I LOVE the Friday Five

Well, I don't know about you but I am glad it is Friday. This was a very busy week that hopefully is followed by a relaxing, fun weekend!

Here are your Friday Five:

1. I LOVE pictures that make you say, "awwwwww!". This picture did that for me:

To look through some more pictures, click here.

2. I LOVE sleep. Fortunately, I have no problem sleeping. I fall asleep easily and I usually stay asleep throughout the night. I may wake up one or two times during the night but that is nothing to write home about. Anyway, I do know a lot of people who have trouble falling asleep or staying asleep. I saw Dr. Oz on the Today Show this morning and he gave tips to having a better nights sleep. Who knew that you sleep better if your room is cold or that you won't have a good night's sleep if your feet are cold. I guess the cure is to lower our air conditioning and wear socks at night. Let me know if that works for you! Go to the Today Show homepage and scroll down to find the video. I can't seem to load the actual video - sorry!

3. I LOVE that Emily Maynard is the next Bachelorette. I don't watch The Bachelor/Bachelorette every season but I will watch when Emily Maynard  is the Bachelorette. Not only because she is gorgeous but also because it will be filmed in Charlotte and I will enjoy seeing familiar places. Deep down I wish she would ditch the show, meet Tim Tebow, and fall in LOVE with him. From what I know about each of them -only what the media portrays- they would make a great couple!

4. I LOVE high drapes. I didn't know I LOVED this until I saw multiple pictures on pinterest. When you place your drapes higher than the window it makes your room look taller and, in my opinion, more chic. What do you think?

5. I LOVE Audrey Hepburn quotes. Here's your quote of the day:

I LOVE Blush/Nude Tones

Thanks to the Golden Globe Awards last night, I've come to realize my LOVE for blush and nude tones. This trend was all over the red carpet and looked amazing.

Charlize Theron - glamour.com

Heidi Klum - mtv.com

Sarah Hyland - mtv.com

Busy Phillips - omg.yahoo.com

Amanda Peet - mtv.com

Elle Macpherson - glamour.com

Katharine McPhee - style.mtv.com

Giuliana Rancic - mtv.com

Nicole Kidman - glamour.com

Jessica Biel - usmagazine.com

Since this trend will most likely catch on I googled "how to wear neutrals" and found a great article at becomegorgeous.com. The article describes why neutrals are a hot trend and how you should wear them depending on your skin/hair tone. Check out the article here.

I can't post a blog on award show fashion without telling you my favorite; that would be wrong of me! So here it is...my favorite of the night goes to:

Charlize Theron

Her chic Dior dress, amazing shoes, and natural makeup worked perfectly for her. I especially LOVED her vintage 1920's Cartier diamond headpiece. It was the perfect accessory and made her entire look sparkle.

I LOVE the Friday Five

Happy Friday the 13th! dun dun duuuuun. Just kidding, I'm not superstitious at all but it is fun to joke about, ha.

Here are your Friday Five:

1. I LOVE Garnier Nutritioniste Skin Renew Lotion. Remember when I told you that I LOVED Total Effects Night Firming Cream? I still do but that small bottle just ran out. I like to switch products up after they run out because I have convinced myself it is better for your skin/hair/etc. I have no idea if that is fact or not. Anyway, I just started using the Garnier Nutritioniste Skin Renew Lotion and I have fallen in LOVE with it. As a girl who LOVES the sun and LOVES being tan, I am sure my skin has some major sun damage. Now, I live at the beach and am in the sun at least every weekend so I figured it was time to start taking care of my skin. Better late than never, right? This lotion can be used daily and provides your face with SPF 28. It says it will reverse the signs of sun damage such as fine lines, uneven tone, and sun spots. We'll see.

NOW, REVERSE THE SIGNS OF SUN DAMAGE YOU SEE… AND SOME YOU DON’T*.
I bought it at our local Walmart.

2. I LOVE new pillows. Over the holidays, Michael and I slept in many different beds with many different pillows. We aren't ones to bring our pillows from home when we travel. Once we got home from traveling and slept on our pillows we quickly realized that it was time for new ones. I know pillows are expensive but I don't think you have to spend a lot of money to find a good pillow. We headed to Walmart and I picked out an extra firm quilted pillow and Michael picked out a firm down alternative pillow. That night we could really tell a difference. I LOVE my new pillow.

3. I LOVE restaurant week. Remember when I first told you about restaurant week? Well, it's that time again! Restaurant week is January 12th-22nd so if you live in Charleston, you won't want to miss it. If you can't remember what restaurant week is and don't feel like clicking on the link above, the Charleston Restaurant Association describes it as:
...an opportunity to enjoy the world-renowned cuisine of the Lowcountry as participating restaurants offer prix fixe menus consisting of three items for one price. 3 items for $20, $30 or $40. View all restaurants participating and their Restaurant Week menus below. Bon Appetit!
Click here to view the restaurants that are participating and the menus they are offering.

4. I LOVE red and camel together. I LOVE when people pair red and camel. It is elegantly chic and is admired by many. Here are some of my favorite ways to pair red and camel:

I LOVE my father-in-law

As I have said before, I am blessed to have the greatest in-laws. From the very beginning they have treated me as their own. My father-in-law is caring, hardworking, generous, and accepting. He LOVES the Lord with all his heart and he LOVES his family more than words can say. Today is my father-in-law's birthday so I wanted to wish him a HAPPY BIRTHDAY. Even though we can't be with him today I hope he knows he is in our thoughts on this special day.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, Joedy! Michael and I LOVE you!

I LOVE the Friday Five

Happy Friday friends! Even though it took me a while to get back into the swing of "normal" life after our trip, this week went by pretty fast for me.

Here are your Friday Five:

1. I LOVE Eller's Chili. Yup, Michael and I created our own chili and it turned out very delicious! We were pretty creative with the name, right?!? ha. This week was the coldest week that we have had this winter so it was the perfect time to make chili. I looked at a couple different recipes and factored in what we already had at home and came up with a concoction of yummy ingredients that came together as the perfect chili. It is simple and quick to make and you'll have dinner for more than one night. Let me know if you try it! Sorry, I forgot to take a picture.

Eller's Chili
Makes about 16 cups
1 lb ground meat (we used venison)
1 roll of ground pork sausage
1 large onion, chopped
4 (12.5oz) cans of diced tomatoes with green chilies
3 cans (12.5oz) can of corn, drained & rinsed
3 cans (10oz) tomato sauce
2 cans (15.5oz) dark red kidney beans, drained & rinsed
2 cans (15.5oz) black beans, drained & rinsed
3 Tbsp chili powder
1 Tbsp garlic powder
Salt and pepper to taste
Shredded cheddar cheese (optional)
Cook ground meat and ground sausage until browned. In a large pot (with a lid) mix the cooked meat and sausage with the rest of the ingredients (minus the cheese). Bring mixture to a boil then reduce heat to medium and cover. Cook for 35 minutes stirring occasionally.
Top each bowl with shredded cheddar cheese and enjoy!

2. I LOVE yoga. I'm not into the whole "close your eyes, put your hands together and feel the energy of the earth pull up your spine and out of your head" part of yoga, although, I do LOVE that it gives your body a great workout. On our vacation, my sister-in-law Ashley, taught us a yoga class in the yard and I really enjoyed it. It reminded me of my childhood dance and gymnastic days. I decided to try the yoga class at the gym yesterday morning, and boy, it kicked my butt. I thought I had good balance - nope. I thought I was flexible - nope. I was "that girl" in the class that had to use the small box with almost every pose just to keep myself from falling down. It was humorous to say the least. Although, I don't care how dumb I looked or that I was the worst in the class because I am sore today so I must have done something right. Hopefully, the more classes I go to the better I'll get. Maybe I'll even upgrade to hot yoga status or be able to do this pose:
ha...we'll see.

3. I LOVE burlap. Lately, this has been one of my favorite fabrics. It has a laid back, southern look that I LOVE. If I was a designer, I would put burlap in every design. Here are some of my favorite ways to use burlap:

as a table runner

as a wreath
made by my friend, Amanda King

as curtains

as a vase cover

4. I LOVE that Justin Timberlake and Jessica Biel are engaged. It's about time, right!? I LOVE this couple. She is gorgeous and he is handsome. I can't wait to finally see the ring and pictures from the wedding...whenever that may be.

5. I LOVE this quote. It is definitely something we should think about everyday - good or bad.

I LOVE Treasure Cay, Bahamas

So, here's how our trip began...

Michael and I arrived at the Orlando airport at 10:30am and had plenty of time before our flight took off at 12:30pm. We are excited and ready to go when we learned that the plane was late and arrived at the airport at 12:30pm. After the passengers unloaded, the plane was refueled and it was finally our time to board - at 1:15pm. Luckily, we had a long layover in Nassau so we didn't get too worried. We landed in Nassau at 2:30pm only to learn that we had to sit on the plane for 30 minutes waiting for a terminal to open. At this point, the flight attendants are telling us that there are too many planes in the air so we had to wait until other planes were allowed to take off before we could unload. At 3:00pm, the plane pulled into an open parking lot and we unloaded there and had to walk to the other side of the airport to reach our connecting flight. As we are walking towards customs I overhear a few airport employees talking about how "air traffic control is on strike"...wonderful. We get through customs and are now running to our connecting flight. 3:45pm - whew! We made it. We meet the rest of the family and board a small plane. We sit there in anticipation of reaching our destination before we learn that "there are too many planes in the air and we have to wait to take off" - suuure. So, we wait...and wait...and wait...for 2 hours. Finally, at 6:00pm we are able to take off -and the flight attendants finally tell us the truth about the strike- everyone claps and we are ready to go. Oh, but wait...Treasure Cay airport doesn't have lights so we can't fly in after dark... are you kidding me? We fly into Marsh Harbour which is about 45 minutes away and load into a taxi. Our taxi driver was 83 years old -I'm serious- and would slow down, almost to a complete stop, every time a car would pass us going the opposite direction. He would also slow down when cars behind us sped up to pass. It was an experience to say the least. We made it to Treasure Cay airport where our scheduled taxi driver met us. Thank goodness he was younger. We drove for another 10 minutes and finally arrived at our house. We made it. Thank you Jesus for getting us there safe.
At least we got a great story out of it all, right?!?!

Treasure Cay (pronounced "key"), Bahamas is extremely beautiful. The aqua water that rolled onto the white sand was breathtaking. The Eller crew spent each day lounging and relaxing. We all let loose and enjoyed lots of laughs and created unforgettable memories.

Here is a brief look at our vacation (the pictures don't do it justice):
