I LOVE the Friday Five

Happy Friday, friends! This is going to be a crazy and busy weekend in Charleston because of the annual Cooper River Bridge Run. Good luck to everyone who is running!

For today's Friday Five, I am going to jump on the "what's in your purse" bandwagon. Technically, this is not a Friday Five since there are many more than 5 items in my purse. It's actually a Friday Seventeen. Sure, I'm just like you in thinking, "who cares?" but for some reason I still find myself looking at each thing. Who knows, maybe "what's in my purse" will reveal something to you that you didn't know about me.

Starting from the top:

1. Black gloves. Please tell me why I am still carrying around black winter gloves? I don't think I'll need them considering the weather has been in the 80's this week! Those must come out of my purse, asap.

2. Wallet. I absolutely love my pink, quilted wallet with the cute bow on the front. There's not much in that wallet but at least it is cute!

3. Seacost notes. The two pieces of paper on the right are note sheets from church. Each week, you are given a piece of paper with scripture from the message and blanks to fill in notes. They are nice to have when I want to look back over them later in the week.

4. Easter is on a Sunday this year cards. Those are cards that I am going to pass out to invite people to come to church on Easter Sunday. Yes, we know Easter is always on a Sunday - it caught your eye though, didn't it! Check out the website here.

5. Gold earrings. I let a friend borrow those earrings and when she gave them back I put them in my purse and never put them back in my closet. I've been carrying those around for a couple weeks now, ha!

6. Gum. You are probably thinking, "who needs 2 packs of gum in their purse?" but notice the difference; I'll chew the Trident White when I need to freshen my breath and I'll chew the Extra Dessert Delights when I need a sweet treat without eating a sweet. The Orange Creme Pop flavor is good but the Mint Chocolate Chip is the best.

7. Business Card. That is my dentist's business card. I have an appointment next Monday so that is there to remind me.

8. Clear nail polish. I LOVE polished nails even if they are polished with a clear coat. This is another product I have carried around since the winter. I LOVE to wear tights in the winter and they occasionally get a run by my toenails so I stop that run quickly with this clear nail polish.

9. Band aids. I carry these around for a possible cut when my shoes start to hurt my feet or give me blisters. I guess they will also be nice to have if I cut myself!

10. Keys. Those are my work keys. I have locked myself out of my own work desk many times so I learned to never take those keys out of my purse.

11. Umbrella. If you live in Charleston you know that a rain shower can pop up at any time (even when the weatherman isn't calling for rain). I always have an umbrella because I do not want to get caught in the rain without one.

12. Lip products. 2 types of chap stick (I guess I choose a flavor depending on my mood? who knows.), Blistex (for when I don't want to put on the chap stick), Lip Balm (lime flavored and shimmery - for when I am feeling sassy), & my Covergirl All Day Lip Color (for when I am feeling fancy). I think I just realized that I might have a "lip product problem" or maybe I just fall in LOVE with lip products daily. We'll stick with the latter.

13. Sea Island Cotton hand sanitizer and lotion. 'Cause I've got to sanitize and moisturize during the day.

14. Pen. I've started keeping a pen in my purse because the times when I need a pen the most, I never seem to have one. Now...I am prepared.

15. Kindle. Remember I told you I was reading the book, Heaven by Randy Alcorn. It's such a good book I read it every free chance I get.

16. Mirror. Pure necessity. I never think I need it but when I do, I am so glad that I have it. I should have taken the mirror out of the bag to show you how pretty it is. It has red jewels all over the edges and back.

17. Camera case. That beautiful little bag was given to me by my mom and is from Ukraine. It is the perfect size bag to hold my camera (which I take everywhere). Even though the zipper is broken I'll never throw away that bag. I LOVE it.

I hope I didn't bore you to much today. At least I gave you some reading material to pass the time, right? What's in your purse??

Have a wonderful, safe, fun weekend friends!

I LOVE Sidewalk Prophets "Live Like That"

This weekend we celebrated the life of our friend, Joshua. Although, there were tears, it truly was a celebration of the impact he had on this earth. He lived his life with an eternal perspective which is having a huge impact on many of his family and friends. Four of his cousins accepted the Lord and were baptised at the funeral - praise the Lord!

Saturday night, we all gathered at Joshua's cafe to fellowship and celebrate Joshua. I know he was looking down and smiling, LOVING that his family and friends packed out his cafe.

This past week my friends, Britney & Britt, played the song, "Live Like That" by Sidewalk Prophets and I fell in LOVE with it. It describes how Joshua lived and how we all should strive to live our earthly lives. Listen to the music while reading the lyrics.

Sidewalk Prophets "Live Like That"

Sometimes I think
What will people say of me
When I'm only just a memory
When I'm home where my soul belongs

Was I love
When no one else would show up
Was I Jesus to the least of those
Was my worship more than just a song

I want to live like that
And give it all I have
So that everything I say and do
Points to You

If love is who I am
Then this is where I'll stand
Recklessly abandoned
Never holding back

I want to live like that
I want to live like that

Am I proof
That You are who you say You are
That grace can really change a heart
Do I live like Your love is true

People pass
And even if they don't know my name
Is there evidence that I've been changed
When they see me, do they see You

I want to live like that
And give it all I have
So that everything I say and do
Points to You

If love is who I am
Then this is where I'll stand
Recklessly abandoned
Never holding back

I want to live like that
I want to live like that

I want to show the world the love You gave for me
I'm longing for the world to know the glory of the King

I want to live like that
And give it all I have
So that everything I say and do
Points to You

If love is who I am
Then this is where I'll stand
Recklessly abandoned
Never holding back

I want to live like that
I want to live like that

Your continued prayers, especially for his family, are greatly appreciated.

Celebrating Joshua

This weekend is going to be a tough one. We will be celebrating Joshua and his life here on earth. Please pray for his family, Liz, and Liz's family this weekend. I pray that she knows how much she is LOVED and can see how much she is supported. She is not alone and I hope that is clear to her.

I'm not going to write my typical Friday Five but I am going to write about a few things I have thought about, discussed, and learned since Sunday. This post may turn in to a therapy session for myself and a time for me to write my random thoughts down but I ask that you bear with me. It may be wordy. Who knows, maybe God is prompting me to write things down so that it may help you in some way? I trust Him.

"Faith is deliberate confidence in the character of God whose ways you may not understand at the time." -Oswald Chambers

Psalm 34:18 "The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit."

Joshua 1:9  "Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go."

Psalm 116:15 “Precious in the sight of the LORD is the death of his faithful servants.”

Travis Cottrell's song, "In Christ Alone // Solid Rock"

Joshua always put Christ first and family second. As his friends, he always made us feel like family. He would do anything for anyone. He LOVED to laugh and his smile could brighten up an entire room. He was a dreamer and knew that dreaming big and fulfilling that dream was completely possible. He reminded us that it is important to do what you LOVE because your attitude towards everyone around you will be at its highest.

Life is short and can be taken from us at any time. Cherish each day and don't "put off until tomorrow what you can do today." When you think about eternity you begin to understand how short our life on earth is...even if we live 100 years. Thank you Jesus for paying the ultimate price - dying on the cross and rising again - so that my sins are forgiven. I know that my eternity will be spent in Heaven, walking side by side with Jesus, and I am so grateful for that. I pray that you all will spend your eternity in Heaven as well.

I've started to really think about what Heaven is going to be like. I know it will be better than anything I can fathom. I've read scripture about Heaven and have some idea what it will be like but it is something I really want to dig into. Don't misunderstand me, I believe in Heaven and Hell 100% so it isn't something I need to convince myself of...it is simply a desire to learn more. Our pastor, Greg Surratt spoke to the Seacoast staff on Tuesday (view his message here) and recommended the book, Heaven by Randy Alcorn. I downloaded it on our kindle and can't wait to learn more about what scripture teaches us about Heaven.

I heard "I can only imagine" by Mercy Me this morning and connected with the words more than I ever have. It's true..."I can only imagine, what it will be like, when I walk by your side. I can only imagine, what my eyes will see, when your face is before me."

The chorus to Jimmy Needham's song, "If I ever needed Grace" has helped me know that in all situations, we need God's grace.

If I ever needed grace, it's now
You are strong when I am weak, somehow
I am weak enough to see
I need You to cover me
If I ever needed grace, it's now

In every joy and pain
Whatever comes my way
God I need Your grace

The importance of family and friendship. This is one thing I know I take for granted that should never be taken for granted. Treat everyone like it will be the last moment you spend with them - because it may be. Share every part of your life with your family and close friends. They are there to LOVE you, support you, give you advice and encouragement. They are there to laugh with you, cry with you, rejoice with you and mourn with you. God placed us in our family on purpose. God has placed our friends in our lives on purpose. We may never know why but there is a reason. My family and friends mean the world to me. I should not allow weeks to go by without a simple phone call to hear their voice and to tell them I am interested in what's happening in their lives.

Joshua and Liz were our first close friends here in Charleston. We built a relationship that, looking back on, was built for a purpose. Joshua taught us to LOVE everything about life. He taught us the importance of an accountability partner. He showed us the importance of close friends within your church family. He was a light to this world during his time on earth and is still a light after God took him home. We should all strive to brighten the world, even with a simple smile.

Joshua's visitation is tonight from 5pm-7pm. His funeral is tomorrow at 2pm. During this time, I would greatly appreciate your prayers, especially, for Joshua's family, Liz, and Liz's family. It is going to be difficult to say "see you later" to our friend but I can not imagine what it would be like to say "see you later" to a husband, son, brother, or son-in-law.

In true Joshua fashion, the family has asked that we not wear black to either the visitation or funeral. Instead, they have asked us to wear anything Chicago Bears (his favorite team), Abercrombie (he was a manager for many years and still wore Abercrombie all the time), or anything beachy (he LOVED Tommy Bahama, linen, bright colors, and of course, the beach). We will be celebrating Joshua's life in the way that he would want us to.

If you live in Charleston and haven't been to How Art Thou? cafe (that he created and opened along with his cousin & father-in-law), I highly recommend it. You will be able to see who Joshua was all over the Cafe. When you do go there, say a prayer for the Cafe and his family. Thank you.

Joshua LOVED to eat at our local mexican restaurant. The server's knew his family by name and recognized their two adorable children. They were always greeted with a loud "Hola!" and a huge smile. Go eat at your favorite mexican restaurant tonight with your closest friends in honor of Joshua and while you're there, say a prayer for his family. Also, cherish that time with your friends. Treat it like it will be your last dinner with them. Enjoy every moment.

If you would like to donate to Liz, there is a link to do so here. Thank you in advance for your generosity.

In Christ Alone

Michael and I lost a great friend and brother in Christ on Sunday, far too quickly and far too soon. He was an amazing friend to us and an amazing father and husband to his family. God's light was shown through him daily. Words can not express how much he is and will be missed. As I am grieving, God has comforted my heart through his word and through music. This morning, Travis Cottrell's song, "In Christ Alone // Solid Rock" came on and God used it to comfort my broken heart. Hopefully, you will listen to this song and God will use the lyrics to encourage you and whatever you may be going through.

Travis Cottrell, "In Christ Alone // Solid Rock"

In Christ alone my hope is found
He is my light, my strength, my song
This Cornerstone, this solid Ground
Firm through the fiercest drought and storm
What heights of love, what depths of peace
When fears are stilled, when strivings cease
My Comforter, my All in all
Here in the love of Christ I stand

In Christ alone who took on flesh
Fullness of God in helpless Babe
This gift of love and righteousness
Scorned by the ones He came to save
'Til on that cross as Jesus died
The wrath of God was satisfied
For ev'ry sin on Him was laid
Here in the death of Christ I live

There in the ground His body lay
Light of the world by darkness slain
Then bursting forth in glorious day
Up from the grave He rose again
And as He stands in victory
Sin's curse has lost its grip on me
For I am His and He is mine
Bought with the precious blood of Christ

CHORUS
On Christ the solid rock I stand
All other ground is sinking sand
All other ground is sinking sand
On Christ the solid rock I stand
All other ground is sinking sand
All other ground is sinking sand

No guilt in life, no fear in death
This is the power of Christ in me
From life's first cry, to final breath
Jesus commands my destiny
No pow'r of hell, no scheme of man
Can ever pluck me from His hand
'Til He returns or calls me home
Here in the power of Christ I'll stand

Joshua was a born again believer and is in Heaven with Jesus now. I know he is playing music with his guitar and singing with Jesus and the angel's. He is "fist bumping" with the disciple's and making everyone laugh. His mansion is full of his paintings and artistic creations. He is filled with joy and I can only smile when I think about what an amazing place he is in. We LOVE you, Joshua...we'll see you again!

Please pray for his family, especially, his wife Liz and their two children Hannah and George. I know how much I am hurting and can not imagine the hurt they are feeling.

Liz, Hannah and George - We LOVE you and are here for you always.

John 3:16  For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

I LOVE the Friday Five

First, I saw this quote on pinterest and it describes my blog perfectly so I had to share:
truth
Let's all try to "promote what we LOVE."

With that being said, I LOVE that it is finally Friday. I have been itching for the weekend because the weather here has been beautiful and all I want to do is lay out! Although, since I am a grown up and have a Monday-Friday full time job, laying out all day during the week is not possible.

Happy Friday, friends!

1. I LOVE vitamin D. Okay - truth - I LOVE sunshine. Like I just mentioned, being in the sun (especially by the pool/beach) is one of my favorite things to do. 80 degree weather is the perfect beach weather and I have felt some jealousy towards the people who have been able to enjoy it. Remember where I work? I am grateful that I can sit outside by the water during my lunch break to enjoy some vitamin D.

2. I LOVE St. Patrick's Day. Really, I just enjoy a reason to do something different. I will make sure I am wearing green while enjoying the festivities of the day with great friends. Beach day, maybe? I sure hope so! Have a fun and safe holiday!

3. I LOVE eyebrows. Lately, I have been noticing people's eyebrows more than usual (as well as my own). Thicker eyebrows have become a trend so maybe that's why...I'm not quite sure. Anyway, eyebrows frame your face and can enhance your beauty or they can be the focal point of your face. Don't let them be the focal point of your face. Too thick or too thin eyebrows don't do anything for your face. Lauren Conrad posted an article on her website a while back to teach us how to create the perfect brows. I highly encourage you to read it here. She definitely knows her stuff...

4. I LOVE Carrie Underwood. She is so talented and extremely beautiful. She seems to have a good head on her shoulders and hasn't taken her rise to fame for granted. Her voice is showstopping and she kills it in her new single, "Good Girl".

5. I LOVE not getting sand on the bottom of my drink at the beach. Sometimes pinterest shows me some genius products that I wish I would have thought of. This is one of them. I need want these for this summer!

Is is obvious I am ready for the summer & beach days? Have a great weekend and enjoy this beautiful weather!

I LOVE Draw Something

If you have an iPhone or iPad, I highly encourage you to download the Draw Something app. Michael introduced me to this app and I quickly fell in LOVE with it. You are given three words and you choose one to draw. You draw a picture of your chosen word and your opponent will try to guess what the picture is. Your opponent is given a number of letters to help them narrow it down. I am a terrible drawer but somehow my opponents have been able to guess my drawings. Just like Words with Friends, you can find your facebook friends who have the app and can challenge them. So, download the app and challenge me to a game!

I LOVE Hugo

Before the Grammy's I'd never heard of Hugo. This movie won so many awards I figured something about it had to be great and I instantly wanted to watch it. Michael and I rented Hugo last night and watched it while snacking on a bag of popcorn (a recent LOVE). I really enjoyed it. The graphics and imagery were amazing and it had a uplifting storyline. I recommend this movie to people of all ages. You won't be disappointed!

My body is still getting used to the time change. I am one tired girl today! Although, I LOVE that the days are longer especially because we will have mid to upper 70 degree days this week. Come on spring - I am ready for you!

I LOVE the Friday Five

Happy Friday, friends!

Here are your Friday Five:

1. I LOVE Footloose. Yes, I LOVE the original movie but I am referring to the new version. I am a sucker for good dancing. I can sit and watch people dance (who dance well) for hours. I was able to watch the new Footloose as its own movie and not as a remake which is hard to do for most remade movies. It was great! Not to mention that I may or may not have sung along to each of the songs ;)

2. I LOVE Daylight Savings. Don't forget to spring ahead! This Saturday night remember to set your clocks up an hour. I LOVE getting the extra hour of sunlight.

3. I LOVE March Madness. I, for some reason, really LOVE filling out a tournament bracket. It is so much fun to compete with my friends and family just for the sake of competing. I don't know anything about some of the teams and admit that I choose a lot of teams based on their location, colors, or mascot. If I can't pronounce the name of the team (or if their name is Duke) then there is no way they are moving forward. What? That's not how everyone does it? Go Heel's!

4. I LOVE rope wedges. I think rope styles are so cute for the summer especially at the beach. Rope is fun to wear as jewelry, on your accessories, and definitely on shoes. I LOVE wedges and these shoes are perfect!

5. I LOVE the weekend. Because I am feeling wordless at the moment...

weekend

Have a great one!!

I LOVE motivation

Pinned Image
Unfortunately, so true!

Here in Charleston, spring and summer are considered "beach season." On the weekends, I am in a bathing suit more than any other type of clothing which means I need to make sure I am healthy and fit. I also want to look my best in this year's spring trends. That being said, March is the month that I need increase the intensity of my workouts which calls for some major motivation! I know hope I am not the only one who needs an extra push out of the door.

Working out isn't my favorite thing to do so I LOVE any motivation to get me off my butt! Below are some motivators that have tremendously helped me and will hopefully motivate you (if you need it).

  • Prayer. I'm not kidding...it works. Before I go to bed, I put on my workout clothes, set my alarm and have prayer time. During this time, I ask the Lord to help me sleep through the night so that I will be able to easily wake up when my alarm goes off and that He will pull me out of bed. Some mornings, I know it is the Lord moving my legs because I wouldn't have done it on my own! Try it, God will say yes to good health.
1 Samuel 25:6
Say to him: ‘Long life to you! Good health to you and your household! And good health to all that is yours!

  • Meeting a friend (thanks Hillary!). On Tuesdays, my motivation to take a 5:45am spin class is because I know my friend/coworker is meeting me there. She is a mother of two children under the age of 2 and she always gets there before me. Plus, if I don't go, she can confront me face-to-face just a few hours later and my only excuse will be that I was to tired to wake up. Spin will wake me up, for sure!

  • Pinterest. You laugh, but it works. I constantly think about some of the quotes (you know I LOVE them) that are on there and they push me to go to the gym and to work hard while I am there. Here are a few pins that have motivated me:

The one that I think about the most:

I know that motivation comes from within but hopefully these motivation tips might jump start that motivation within! What motivates you??

I LOVE the Friday Five

Drum roll please......

Here are your Friday Five! Do you LOVE that it is back or did you even notice it was gone??

Remember when I told you that I LOVE fall fashion? Well, I also LOVE spring fashion. Actually, it's safe to say I LOVE fashion. I think I get most excited about it when the season changes and you are able to start wearing new and different styles. Below are the top 5 (in no particular order) spring fashion trends that I LOVE:

1. I LOVE polka dots: Polka dots are fun and can match any person's style. They bring life to any outfit. Here are some of my favorite ways to wear polka dots this spring:

LC Lauren Conrad Polka-Dot Bow Dress

2. I LOVE the high-low hem. This is a very trendy style that I have seen many celebrities wear. It is new and fun. I don't know how long this trend will stay around but I plan on wearing it this spring!

3. I LOVE bold colors and color blocking. In my opinion, this is the hottest trend of the season. I absolutely LOVE it.

4. I LOVE floral prints. You can't go into spring without wearing girly floral prints!
